I'm back!!!

Well I am still alive and kicking. Unfortunately I am not teaching and not coaching. I am now working for the department of veterans affairs and trying to become an IT professional. I plan on updating this blog again and will start discussing and tweaking my version of the wing-t. I am now working two jobs.

I appreciate all those who have sent me emails and wishing me well. I also appreciate those who are still following this blog.

Any suggestions or requests about my discussion just send email

Hard times hit home

The hard times have hit home. I am now without a teaching job and a coaching job. I have been searching for the last several months with no avail.
I have been applying for jobs in and out of teaching. I have been offered three different head coaching positions but without a teaching position attached. Making $4000 for a season just don't pay the bills. I have taken a part-time position as a computer repair technician at Staples. I have also applied for unemployment.
I am a certified social studies teacher and a special education teacher. The only teaching positions that are available in my area are in elementary special education, elementary education or in teaching English. The positions that I am qualified for are several hours away and I can't afford to commute or to move.
The football season has officially started in Iowa and I am going through withdrawal from not coaching high school football. I have been coaching for the past fifteen years and have spent most of that time as either a head coach or as a coordinator on the varsity level.
I am not asking for a handout or any assistance. Something will come of the applications that I have sent out for either teaching, IT, or working for the government. I know that times are tough for a lot of people right now. It looks like I may not have a choice but to get out of education. I really wanted out of being a special education teacher any way.
I am going to try and post on this site from time to time. I am just a little depressed right now. All will work itself out. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right? God has a plan for me!!
I would like to hear from others if they have had success running this type of offense or any success stories. I would be glad to share them. If anyone would like to share video I would also be willing to look at it and post it to this site.

Hard Times

I have been hearing about how many of my fellow educators have been being layed off because of budget restraints and cuts. The Des Moines Iowa school district is laying off over 170 teachers.
I was looking into becoming the head coach at a smaller district outside of Des Moines. I will not name it at this time, however the district has decided to hire a new head football coach but do not have a teaching position to hire.
I also have been informed that my teaching contract will not be renewed for next year. I am a high school special education teacher and my position will be cut for next year. In 24 school days I will be without a teaching job.
Now is a time that I have been doing a lot of soul searching. Is it time for me to get out of being an educator? I definately want to get out of teaching special education. I am also certified as a social studies teacher and would like to teach it again.
If I get out of education, does that mean that I will no longer be a football coach? Will I be able to be a head Football coach again? I really don't know!!

New Drill Book Published

I have finished my new drill book for Running backs. You can see a preview to the right of this post or you can follow the link to scribd.com

The way that I intend to use this is giving each drill book to the position coach. They can then use it as a resource to pull drills from. When I plan out my practices with the coach I would ask them what drills they would intend to use and then add it right into the practice plan.

Enjoy

Back and Better Than Ever

I have been away form blogging for a while. Well for quite a while. Now that football season is over and I am almost over with the basketball season, I will start adding new topics to my blog again. I hope to make the sight better than ever.

I shall begin talking about the shotgun wing-t. Videos will be added as well as plays drawn up. This topic will discuss the running game, passing game and empty backfield.

I have also started working on a couple of new drill books. The first that I will release will be a drill book for the running backs. This book will have drills specific for the wing-t and drills that can be used by every offense.

The second book I will be releasing will be one with the receivers. This will have a section specific for the Tight Ends.

The third book I will release will be specifically for the wing back.

Please give me some feedback and let me know if you would like me to address something specific on this sight or you would like to see in the drill books.

Always keep football burning in the back of your mind

Football is finally here

It is that time of the year again when football camp has started again in Iowa. I don't quite know how other states do it, but here in Iowa we are allowed to have team camps any time during the summer (without pads) and can start official practices (helmets only) August 10th. This is 18 days before our first game.

I do know that other states have spring football, Iowa does not.

I am starting a new season at a new school this year. I am coaching at Bondurant-farar. A friend of mine is the head coach. I will be coaching the offensive and defensive line this year. Adam asked me to come on board to help them make it into the State Playoffs.

This has been a great relief to me. I just was not happy under the system that I was coaching in. The head coach and I had a difference of opinion about which way the program was heading. I expressed my opinion to him several times in private and finally I got fed up and decided to leave.

From what I have seen so far of Bondurant, it looks like we have the potential of being a team that can go along way in the playoffs. The lineman that I am working with are dedicated, hard working, and listen and respond well to the way I am coaching them.

I am still getting to know the kids and the other coaches on the staff. Overall I believe it is going to be a great year.

I still plan on becoming a head coach again in the future. I actually had to turn down three head coaching jobs this year because with the economy the way it is and after talking it over with my wife. I have just can't afford to uproot and move may family to another town. I don't think I could sell our house or to buy another at this time. There fore I am coaching at a new school but keeping my teaching job at the old one. Who knows maybe after this season there could be an opening for a head coach where I just left from.

Well wish me luck and I will keep you updated.

O-Line Drill Book

I have finally finished the first of my drill books. I have decided to make the offensive line drill book as the first that I am publishing. I decided to this first of all because I feel that the offensive line is the most important positions on the field. I guess I may be biased because I have always worked with the o-line.

In this drill book I have included several drills that I have used over the years. Very few of these drills are my own invention. I have learned these from my fellow coaches, videos, books, and seminars that I have attended. Coaches have been using these drills for a number of years.

What I have done is try to make these drills available to head coaches as well as position coaches. I have often seen in the drill books that I have read, that they are several drills for the entire team. Only a few for each position. I have made this so that the book can be handed to a position coach so that they can use them in practice. The reason why I am asking for a fee is because I have put these together into a book. I spent a lot of time and effort in obtaining the drills and putting together into this format.

If you have any questions or comments please feel free to share them with me.

The season is approaching fast!!!!!
